A Royal Visit, Behind the Lens with Dan Coleman
A personal account of photographing an unforgettable Royal visit and celebrating inclusive boating.
I was incredibly honoured to be invited as the official photographer for HRH The Princess Royal during her visit to the Wetwheels Foundation in Torbay on Wednesday 15th October. Watching the incredible work of Wetwheels, founded by Geoff Holt MBE, up close was inspiring. Their eight specially adapted boats allow disabled and disadvantaged people to experience the thrill of being on the water - not just as passengers, but as active crew members.
The visit was hosted with the support of the English Riviera BID Company, Ocean BMW, and local restaurant Otto, and it was great to see how these organisations came together to support this fabulous event.
The day was very different from my usual video and photography commissions. I am used to telling stories through visual content, but this experience was unique, capturing moments that were lively, empowering, and meaningful. I am so pleased with the resulting photos, which show the visit and its impact clearly. It was rewarding to use my skills to document such an amazing day.
“It was such an honour and privilege to be selected as the official photographer for this visit,” I said. “Capturing the joy and confidence of everyone on board along with the warmth and humility of HRH The Princess Royal, Patron of Wetwheels Foundation, reminded me why I love what I do.”
“I really enjoyed capturing the smiles and excitement on the day,” I added. “It was a fantastic opportunity to see the work of Wetwheels in action and to see local organisations like the English Riviera BID Company, Ocean BMW, and Otto support such an important cause.”
With Image Three Sixty, I aim to capture real moments and tell stories that matter, and this visit was a perfect example of that a really unforgettable day.
